Regularly consuming red and processed meats is linked to a higher risk of type 2 diabetes, according to a recent study. The comprehensive analysis of data from 31 study cohorts found a strong association between processed and unprocessed red meat consumption and type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is a chronic condition that can lead to various health problems. While the study couldn’t establish a direct cause-effect relationship, it aligns with current nutritional guidelines that recommend reducing meat intake. Researchers analyzed data from nearly 2 million people across 20 countries and accounted for various factors that could impact the results. Though more research is needed, cutting back on meat and incorporating more plant-based alternatives is a recommended approach. Regular exercise is also important in managing the risk of type 2 diabetes.
